Countries’ Perception of Turkmenistan

According to a study conducted by the Eurasian Monitor, very few surveyed Central Asian and Eastern European countries find Turkmenistan to be a “hostile” nation in terms of political support and partnership. People tend to view relations with Turkmenistan as neutral.

The Study

  • The general study gathered public opinion from adults (people over the age of 18) regarding other countries in Eurasia.
  • Eurasian Monitor gathered opinions from the citizens of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia.
  • In order to gauge public opinion, the researchers conducted nationwide polls from a mass representative sample in each country.
  • Each participant was asked to identify which countries they felt are friendly for their country (whose support in difficult times can be counted on), and which countries are unfriendly (countries with which they are in conflict or that may be a threat).
